Supernovae Search, Frances and Brett White

17 October 2009 8.30pm-10.30pm
Wiruna, ASNSW’s Dark sky observing site near Ilford NSW
Wiruna Statistics
Latitude: 33° 01' S
Longitude: 149° 46' E
Altitude: 1020m (3300')
Telescope : 17.5 inch, f 4.5 dob Freehand mode.

We observed the following galaxies and carefully referenced them against Images from Wassilieff’s CCD Images Of Southern Galaxies. We also observe as routine the adjacent areas around galaxies for comets or any new anomaly. We only used 2 eyepieces, a 30mm Takahashi and a 12.5mm Takahashi. The 30 Tak to locate and the 12.5 Tak to scrutinize.

NGC6754, NGC782, NGC685, NGC745, NGC1312, NGC1559, NGC1617, NGC1566, NGC1553, NGC1549, NGC1533, NGC1543, NGC 1411, IC2056, NGC1574, NGC1672 NGC1808 NGC1703, NGC1433, NGC1487, NGC1291, NGC1365, NGC1316, NGC 1448.
Hopefully more next month.

Good to see that peole are still searching visually for supernovae and whenever I'm looking at a bright galaxy, I also look for things that are not on the DSS/Megastar. Some nice galaxies there Dennis.

Best,

Les D
