Orion's belt & sword

I was always a bit miffed as to why it was called Orion's belt & Orion's sword until I came across this photo in a series of astro photos. Of course it's reversed on the other side of the earth and suddenly the belt & sword image is evident.
There are several other impressive images on the link too, well worth a look.

Actually, to the ancient Romans it was known as Venus's jewel encrusted mirror!!

I heard an interesting bloke on radio national a few months ago. He documented constellation stories from many cultures and said that Orion was almost universally a hunter or related to hunting. He was unsure whether that was due to the story migrating with humans across the planet or due to some other factor. Quite intriguing, I thought.

Perhaps in the southern sky's it should be Orion's belt and member
