The Butterfly Cluster (M6) and Ptolemy's Cluster (M7) in Scorpius

All,

I went over to JohnG's place on Friday for the weekend. Thanks again, John, for your hospitality!

Whilst waiting for my main target, I managed to grab this whilst the Moon was still up. In fact, the Moon was just north of these troopers.

I know, it's shockingly low on the horizon, but, I thought whilst I was set up I'd take some filler. These are a couple of my favourite open clusters. There's a couple of other open clusters, as well as globular clusters, and, I've managed to nab a Sharpless object, too.

I will re-do this next year.

Read and view here.

Comments, critique, etc., most welcome.

Regards,
Humayun

Wonderful Humayun, what an awesome amount of stars.

The clusters are almost swallowed up in it.

Top stuff

These certainly are getting low in the western sky. You've done great here Humayun. Nice work in maintaining the stellar profiles with their subtle hues. Personally, I'd like to see a little more contrast for the shadows to emphasise the dark dusty areas. Perhaps a s-curve would do the trick. Wouldn't need much though. You could mask it to control the effect if desired. Overall, this is top work.

Cheers

Very nice H. Loads of the fine detail present but could maybe be picked up a bit with a contrast boost. Colour within the stellar cloud looks great. Very nice.

Nicely done H.
I agree with Jase and Doug, a slight contrast boost would lift it slightly.

Huge amount of stars in there.
Good work mate.
