It's awesome...
...when you find something that you didn't realise you even had.
I've been slowly looking through packed boxes of stuff for my Burnham celestial guides, mainly cos I'm too tight to pay for them again when I know I have them somewhere ;-) These were packed when my parents moved from Sydney to Toowoomba 10 or so years ago. I elected to stay in Sydney.
Well...not only have I found 2 of the 3 Burnham's books, but I've found:
AAVSO Variable star atlas 2nd edition
Herald-Bobroff Astroatlas
I'd well and truly forgotten about owning either of these items, so I'm really HAPPY!
I also found my copy of Sky Atlas 2000 (desktop version). Bonus.
other goodies found:
my lomo 6 x 4 medium format camera (cheapie)
A collectible star wars book (I think it cost me nearly 400 when I bought it)
a few other odds and ends.
All I need to find now is the 3rd burhham's book, and my collection of CCD magazines. Go me!

I have a copy of the Herald-Bobroff Astroatlas, unbound so I got it quite cheap at the time. It's a great tool

I'm pretty damn happy - finding things that you don't remember buying, and that you were going to shell out money for a lot later on, is just damn well joy! I don't even think you can get the herald- bobroff atlas anymore, at least according to the website.

Damn right I did Leon I also found a copy of The Hobbit (illustrated by Alan Lee), and a copy of The Lord of the rings (also illustrated by Alan Lee), which is actually still wrapped in plastic wrapping and un-opened! I have a few versions of this book, so I guess I'll keep it wrapped.
I'd forgotten about how good a collection of astro books that I had. My foray a few months ago found Suiter's book on optics (bonus!), as well as the atlas of the moon too. I'd forgotten about both of those books as well at the time.

I found quite a bit of old 70's music equipment at my folks home that is worth a small fortune now.
It's kinda fun finding your old stuff.

Cool finds. You've done without it all for a while now, so you don't need it. Sell it all and get that car and some more astro-gear!

How Can Ya' Forget All That?
Hi Dave,
You're too young for Alzheimer's. Forgetting all that? Must be like Christmas.
One thing Alzheimers has going for it: When ya' find stuff like that its birthday or Xmas all over again. No need to buy heaps of DVDs either. Just watch the same one over again each night 'cause ya' can't remember watching it last night.
Good find. I might go look in the attic or something. Its given me inspiration.
Cheers Marty

hehehe Marty, I actually have a very bad short term memory, OK medium term memory, and generally, a better long term memory. Obviously it failed me in this instance, although to be fair to me, it's been Ten years, and back then, I'd only just bought the Atlases etc and had never really had the chance to use them at all. I mostly use the cheap (but great value) Cambridge Star Atlas.
It really WAS like Christmas came early. There was squeals of delight and gasps aplenty
