Aftermarket side by side plates for losmandy g11

I would like to hear peoples thoughts that have used aftermarket side by side plates,ie ADM or the Aussie made ones sold by Telescopes Astronomy, in their Losmandy mounts. Are they solid or better off spending more to buy genuine?

I have a homebrew version Wayne, and unless you really have to go SBS, my suggestion has always been piggyback. The only time I go SBS now is with my Mak, it is not in rings, so mounting a guide-scope is difficult.

Yeah I realise it is usually easier to piggyback,Gary. But With 3 Scopes it is difficult to Piggyback my SV105 on my C11,as the 105 is fairly heavy and I am worried about flexure. If I used a side by side setup,I could use the 105 next to the C11 or next to my 100mm achromat that I want to use as a guide scope.

The Losmandy and ADM side by side plates are good but the best is probably the Tandem Bar by Robin Casady, expensive but good.

Ahh thanks John

I had forgotten about Robin Casaday when I was thinking of comparisons.Don't know why,as I was only looking at his site a couple of days ago.

I just bought a G11 and I am mounting a C11 and 120mm ED refractor SBS. I got the local made version of the SBS plate from Telescopes and Astronomy and I'm using Losmandy D series bars on the saddles. I was concerned that the locallly made saddles would flex, but the unit seems solid and the Losmandy saddle on the G11 extends well along the SBS bar. The feature I do like is the ability to side load an OTA on the local version rather than slide it down a Losmandy saddle. With a substantial OTA weight, that ain't easy... and I am pretty strong. Give the local a go if you can; even if it does not meet your needs, the resale will be very good.

A couple of days too late I am affraid.I ordered my side by side assembly from SDM on Saturday. As I already had a SDM saddle plate to convert the V series attachment on the clamshell for my Stellarvue APO to Losmandy D plate for my mount. So I knew what the quality was for the SDM product.I would have liked the Cassaday SBS setup, but can't justify the considerable extra cost at this stage.Maybe if I find I get flexure when I mount my C11 side by side with the SV105 Apo,then I might have no choice.Time will tell. But as it stands at the moment,I can't fault the quality of the SDM product,it seems at least on par with Losmandy,if not better.
