Final Mars from 25th AVI's

Hard to dig out the good stuff from very average to poor seeing but here is an image from a final run on the 25th of October. The seeing fell fowl not long after this picture was taken. Comprised of 125 Red, 67 green and 59 Blue filtered frames. Time to return to the real world.

Hi Steve - this is excellent, very fine and detailed. I'd have expected more noise from so few frames, but then I've got no experience of monochrome cameras using filter sets - so who makes the minitron 13v1, is something like the astrovid or more a webcam style camera?
cheers,
Robert T

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Robert, the Mintron is made by Mintron in Asia. It's a surveillance monochrome camera with on-board integrating functions (good for DSO's) and normal exposure operation for planetary work. One of the main reasons I continue to use monochrome cameras with filters after all these years is simply to preserve spatial resolution as best as possible. I find that if the right exposure settings are used with auto-signal gain function set to off then the raw frames contain less noise therefore requiring less frames needed for stacking to improve background noise and ultimately (for me at least) more accurate results. However, depending on how good the seeing is in the raw images to start with determines how many i need to stack and how far I can push the contrast stretching (image enhancement) without losing a reasonably natural look. If the seeing and consistency of contrast is poor then I stack more of the best of the worst frames to allow me to push the image contrast further without revealiung too much hidden noise. Some times it works and some times not always.
