They're great images. Not sure if anyone's been watching "Stephen Fry in America" on ABC Sunday evenings, but one of the episodes think he was in Wyoming, the landscapes there are breathtaking and the range of colours, quite beautiful.

Yep. Have watched (and recorded) all so far except the first episode.
Was thinking exactly the same when I saw these images.
I'll be in the US late next year for 6 weeks and am really looking forward to seeing some of the same sites
1) wonderful lighting and composition, best out of the series imho
2) good composition and foreground interest too, but lighting seems a bit flat. I'd have tried getting lower with the same setup and trying it from that unusual perspective.
3) good shot, lighting is a bit flat but I think it adds to the subject matter. Nice cropping too.
4) lighting is not doing this one justice, looks like it was shot towards the middle of the day. Pity, had good potential.

PS I suck at landscapes, so take my critiques with a bar of soap!
Thanks everyone for the great comments.
I LOVE my DSLR Mitchell. the D300 is a brilliant amera
Matt if you like a few suggestuions of places to visit in the SouthWest US I would be happy to make a few recomendations.
Thank you very much David, your critiques are great. and your right a few of the images were shot during the middle of the day so the light is flat.

My wife and I took the family to the US 10 years ago. Our first O'seas trip. One day we announced to the kids we thought we'd take a trip to Europe thinking they'd be over the moon. They did seem excited but not quite as much as we expected. A few days later they shyly suggested that maybe it would be more fun if we went to America instead. My wife and I were reluctant (it was never big on our to do list) but remembered that when we were kids thats where we wanted to go so OK, thats where we went. What a trip. We just did the east coast (luckly the kids were just as happy to go to Disneyworld in Florida - instead of Disneyland in California) but the kids just loved it. NY, Salem, New Orlenes, stayed with these peole we meyt in New hampshere determined to give us a New England breakfast of pancakes and maple syrup. We wanna go back now and see the mid west and the west coast and maybe even alaska. Ahh fond memories
Sorry I wonder. Great photos Andrew. I wanna see those places in person.
That's OK Andrew. I didn't want to come across as a know it all, etc, was just offering my honest advice based on my own photographic experiences. I'll be going through the same routine, as I've only recently joined the local photography club and will start entering in their monthly competitions.

Well, they all look stunning to me. I've driven around California for 5 or 6 weeks with the family and loved it. I'd really like to do the east coast too, but as the family (five of us) get older, it costs a fortune, and you need a sizeable people mover to travel in any degree of comfort.
Hmm...I've been thinking of doing same myself in Bris, Dave.
Might see you around the traps.
[off topic]
I'm a member of the Ipswich photography club, only a newbie, so figuring out things etc. Their website could be better, and newbies get very little information on procedures. I've entered 3 images in the current "Letter S" comp (2 open, 1 set, grade B) to see how I go. They do inter club competitions as well, but I'm not sure how that all works etc, and nothing have a car makes life a mongrel for me, especially on weekends due to very crappy public transport in Ipswich. We'll probably end up crossing paths. What type of genre do you shoot Matt?

Sorry Matt, didn't mean to have a go at you lol! I was just (for once), being a good boy and realising that I was meandering off topic!!! I like landscapes, but I'm not very good at them. Same with portraits. I'd need to learn those genres better and practice a lot more to get better at them! Would be good to meet up one day, although prolly not until I get a car!
