Better seeing tonight than I have seen in a month or so. Only real problem was the intermittent cloud; it just kept getting in the way. Seeing was near 7 for most of the time. I would have liked it to be a little better which would have permitted me to get a much smoother image.
Well that's amazing. And yet the jetstream map shows it really pumping over SA. Go figure. And it looks to be heading right to me from there, maybe I will set up tonight .
Mark, Bird and I often talk about the interaction between the layers and the jet stream. The presence of the jet stream does not automatically ensure that the seeing will be bad. My best image taken were taken with a predicted 300kms jet stream. This was May last year on the 9-10th. The more we look into it the harder it becomes to decipher. I would recommend that you use the site below which has a better predictor than the site you have shown. The one you show often does not match the Uni.sys site. On this occassion is does.
I think your best for quite a long time. Very nicely processed and a most pleasing result.
Watched the footy before starting imaging last night and started at about the time you captured this image. Up here the seeing started out at 5 gradually improved to about 6 1/2 then dropped off to 5 again at about 1 am. Still processing my data and will post it tonight.
I am sure this image has rewetted you appetite and look forward to more from you in good seeing.
Just another thought regarding jet stream maps, as Mark has raised the topic, they really are only a guide and I think it is a mistake to be too reliant on them. In my humble opinion, I think it is far better to rely on your senses, if the live feed looks good then who really gives a toss whether or not a weather map says you should be imaging or not.

The seeing here was very good last night, the jetstream map said otherwise.
On my best results nights I always just take a glance at the MSL analysis
chart for Oz and save it in the results folder.
It nearly always is a very stable High, just passed Adelaide, isobars spread
VERY far apart, Adelaide under North/NWesterly light winds.
Of course sometimes it's just after an intense low, showers and thunderstorms
have passed as well!
I was equally impressed by some of your published images in the latest AS&T in Les' column, well done!
Details are great, can't wait for "tomorrow" (read tonight) when I can unwrap my father's day TV 5x Powermate and see what it can do.....I wonder when the kids found time to buy me one?
Nice image Paul. Well done. Your comments regarding predicting the conditions were also interesting. Hopefully someone will pull together all the data one day into a site that offers reliable predictions
Matt, Jupiter reach opposition in August and is now well past opposition. Imaging it will continue for some time yet though.
Trevor, I think my best image this year is the image from the 16 June. The detail is much sharper and more detailed.

Just having a look at my October edition of AS&T, congrats on the very nice Jupiter image, sharp as with some stunning detail, it is a shame that the mag reproduction makes the limb so dark. I noticed that Greg, in his editorial also used one of Birds Jupiter Images, also a knock out, but also reproduced with an exceptionally dark limb. Does this mean that images submitted to AS&T need to be processed differently, what are your thoughts?
Have not seen the edition yet Trevor. I have found that some work does need to be done on reproduction under print. It all really depends on which colour model you end up using. Trying to get the colour tint right is a hard task for printing. Also the lighting on print is often different in print too.
I think I am getting a copy of this edition sent to me, so I will see it then.
