Rather sad story, found it our near the bird cage on the ground. I nearly trod on it by accident before I noticed it. Ants were all around, mum was nowhere to be seen, so I picked it up. I knew that as soon as I picked it up, it was doom, but I didn't expect mum to come get it, and the ants would have finished it off quickly.
I don't have any girl mice anymore, so I tried to coax one of my girl ratties who's had a litter before, Buffy, to see if she'd try and rear it. She was interested, picked it up and moved it around but lost interest quickly. I left it in the ratties cage, they didn't hurt it, and I found it in the food bowl this morning, it had obviously been put there by Buffy I'd say. It wasn't doing very well, and was very cold and I knew it wasn't going to make it, but at least it lasted longer than it would have on the ground, and died not being someones meal. I came home from work tonight to find its tiny body cold and lifeless
Image below was taken with it well and truly alive.

it's the first "pinkie" I've ever seen and was adorable. It kept reaching its little legs out towards my fingers, wanting to be looked after. When it's little legs touched my finger, it seemed content. I'll bury the poor little thing tomorrow.
Yes, it's a baby wild mouse, but it's still a living thing and deserved to be treated with respect and maybe a bit of love before it passed on.
