i found that there is a new version of virtual moon atlas available

how ever its a hefty 360mb plus download allthough there is a smaller version available

ive had that with the opengl thing it wouldnt start for me but theyve got a fix you can download of the page you download the vma from.

try that it might fix your crashing problem

Did you guys use a sourceforge link to download it? I've tried about 8 so far, and none of them have the file?
