Quality astro trousers

Hi
Looking for some dedicated winter astro clothes, namely quality padded trousers with high back support (high waisted thermal padding at the back protecting the kidneys).
Snow trousers like this can cost $500.00, looking for something more affordable. I thought I saw something like this at GB Astro a while back, can anyone comment on the quality please?

Joe

Hi Joe,
I was going to suggest ski trousers, perhaps keep an eye out for a pair of second hand ones.

Have a look at motorcycle shops, what you describe are exactly the same as my wet weather bike pants. As they have kidney support, fully 100% waterproof, padding on the rear and kidney support. Only cost me $179 and are all kevlar and thermo goodness inside

Hi Joe

you talking about my "Bib & Brace" overall pants ?

the bib & brace and a jacket is a good combination if you don't like the idea of a full suit

don't have any in stock at the moment, but they retail for $110 plus postage

an apparent lack of interest in freezer wear so far this year means i would have to have a few orders coming in before i could buy more stock in

just a reminder to those going to Ilford next month
the "owl" and the freezer suits won't be there

so if you don't want to freeze your you know what's off, now is the time to place your orders

geoff

Aldi will be having their ski clothes specials soon, it is usually May or June, from memory. Good stuff at reasonable prices.

I go for layers too. Heavy corduroy trousers with two-layer trakkie daks over them. With the freezer coat on top and the huskie boots I'm as warm as toast. The coat is plenty long enough to cover the lower back. Never noticed a wet bum.

I am using my foul weather sailing gear for more than 6-7 years. they keep me warm and dry as they are made of breathable fabric.

I use a freezer suit and freezer boots that I purchased from Hepworth Industrial Wear (aka Hepworths) at Ingleburn in Sydney about 20 years ago. They still make them, and they're perfect for the coldest of astro nights. Highly recommended.

A third layer of lightweight waterproof overpants would keep your behind dry Erick.

I find regular trackies comfortable anytime of the year, even on the coldest nights. My winter outfit consists of a single layer of trackie pants, a shirt and a jumper... and if its real cold, say below 5 degrees, I'll throw on a jacket and I'm comfortable all night long. No need to dress like an Alaskan and spend Naglar-like prices on clothes, particularly in Sydney.

If it's really cold, like less than 18 degees C, I'll forgo the shorts and put some jeans on.

Sorry guys I just couldn't help myself.
Being originally from Perth I know how nasty it can get down Mexico way.

How Ironic, the real Mexico is notorious for its heat, yet we have Antarctica's northern most territory also labelled as "Mexico"

Actually Melbourne itself isnt too bad at night, it's when you get out into the country that you get that real biting chill.

I got a Pro-Val freezer suit a while back to replace an old Hepworth one, is great, looks like they're on sale at the moment from the manufacturer too - www.pro-val.com.au
