Post your August entries here.

The topic this month is: Weather

As usual, one entry per person and the image must be your own work.

The image doesn't necessarily have to have been taken this month but we do encourage you to go out and enjoy the challenge.

Good luck and good shooting.

This day was bitterly cold. The front passed at sunset revealing the first snow of the season. I was lucky to catch this, I had to detour because of roadworks and the return bought me to this scene. South Esk River Launceston.

Turning night into day... in a flash.

This is a stack of 6 x 15 second exposures, with blending mode = lighten, so the brightness of the foreground is the brightness of the brightest flash! No other processing other than a border and save for the web.

Vallee de Joux

The last band of fog lingers over a frozen lake near le Pont, Vallee de Joux, Switzerland way back in Jan 2007.
By this stage the ice had melted and it was no longer safe to walk on the lake. As the sun burned off the fog, a beautiful (but cold) day followed.

Strong Winds

This shot would only just qualify under the catagory "weather".

I went out to take some photo's of star trails (unsuccessfully). Whilst walking to the local park, I noticed a tree under lights which had some dramatic red folage on it. I had planned to take a few quick shots of it, on my return walk home.

During the photography session of star trails, there were some strong winds.

On my return home I was suprised by the fact, that all the leaves had been blown clean off and were scattered down the street.

Thanks for looking!!

I'm hoping to retake this shot with my proper camera next time the conditions are like this (and when I'm awake that early)

Routeburn's First Fall

This is a re-submission of one of my images that was posted in the terrrestrial imaging forum here.

I went walking along the Routeburn Track and was lucky enough to have witnessed the first snow fall of the season. The scene around me looked like something out of Narnia.

Unfortunately, I did not have the correct hiking gear for the weather and so I turned around and started walking back to the beginning of the track. On my way down, I encountered some of the most beautifully-filtered light I have ever seen.

I made this photograph just before the light show finished in a gorgeous little section which had a bit of a clearing that I thought would help give me depth to the scene.

Slightly higher resolution found here.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
5s f/22.0 at 37.0mm iso100

Regards,
Humayun

A rapidly approaching cloud band at Lord Howe Island. I had to race for cover after taking this one.

Some cloud looming over our intended ski destination. It becomes awfully cold inside those white fluffy clouds. Shot from Charlotte Pass with Mount Carruthers hidden in the cloud.
