On the 10th August 2009, the sun crosses the plane of Saturns rings. The Earth crosses the plane of Saturns rings on the 4th September 2009. During this 25 day period, Saturns rings will not be visible.
On 10th August, Saturn sets at about 8:20pm so it will be pretty low in the sky, and no doubt affected by the atmosphere to some extent, but for those who see it I imagine it will be a treat to see this rare occurence.
If anyone if attempting to photograph or image Saturn during this time, I'm sure lots here at IIS would like to see your efforts.
