Optus e-mail problems - 29 July 2009?

Hello,

Is anyone else experiencing any problems with their optusnet broadband e-mail? I can appear to send e-mail via my e-mail client (MS Outlook) but am having problems receiving it. The Optus mail server appears to keep cycling through the log on panel, several times, then sometimes downloading 1 or 2 e-mails but more often than not giving me the ubiquitous “0x80042108 Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server” error message. or sometimes, an authentication problem...

Occasionally, after a looooong wait, I can get into my e-mail via the web interface.

I tried their help line but all I got was an automaton/cyber voice whom I soon got fed up with!

Cheers

Dennis

Dennis it might be Optus that has the problem.

I hardly ever use my OptusNet email....I have about 10 other email accounts that I've picked up over the years

I mostly use hotmail, though.

Thanks for your replies guys, much appreciated! I ran the scanpst.exe, did a few compacts as well as running the Archive process and none of these actions fixed the problem, so it’s reassuring to know it’s not at my end.

I tried again this morning and everything appears to be working okay, including receiving the 15 “This is an e-mail message sent automatically by Microsoft Office Outlook's Account Manager while testing the settings for your POP3 account” test messages that I sent to myself!

Cheers

Dennis

PS – thanks Dave & Ian for the http links.

no problems Dennis, it is a pretty good site to investigate plans and options for your internet connections as well as a very strong sounding board for the service providers.

Yes, whingepool is great. I love reading everyone whinge about anything.

On a serious note, it is a massive forum with lots of good information. And, whinging.

I suffered with Optus cable for a period of over six months with conection dropouts and over a dozen calls to their inadequate support line (each one at least half an hour wait before I actually got to speak to someone). Eventually I switched to ozemail ADSL.

First (and only) time I had a problem with them I rang the support line and spoke to someone in less than two minutes. The next day I woke up and saw a telstra van out front of my house servicing the phone line. Bloody great service and I don't mind paying a little extra $$$ for it.

Funny thing is I get optus salesmen coming to my door at least once every three months, and I tell them all the same thing - if they put a quarter of the effort into their product support that they put into sales and marketing they would probably still have me as a customer, but now that I have left I will never go back.
