First DSO target recommendations

So what do the more experience members recommend as a good DSO imaging target for beginners?

Hans with all that good equipment listed in your signature you could try for a huge variety of objects.
However it seems that the most frequent imaged object would have to be Eta Carina.

Also have a look at the Deep Space dection of the forums. The images posted there will give you a good idea of what objects other members are choosing to imaging.

I'm with Mike on this one...... What a wonderful list of astrophotography equipment.
If you are for real just watch this forum group and you will see plenty of targets for all he gear you have.

certainly not a beginners list of gear i would have thought if youve done the research for that equipment you would be up on the targets.

however.

eta carinae nebula
M42
omega centauri
m31 (depending on location)
ngc253
m8
m16
m17
m20

that will give you a variety to kick off on
most beginners hammer the first two until they find their feet.

Jeez sorry for posting the initial question, I think I will go back to the US forum sites.

For the record I did the so called research and purchased the Mewlon and APOMAX purely for visual Astronomy. The FSQ and ST-2000XM were to dabble in Astrophotography because they are light and portable and due to the excellent exchange rate were a better investment for my $$.

My reason for posting the initial question was that I was of the impression some DSO targets were more technically challenging but I guess there is no latitude in these forums for stupid questions.

He who posts a list of equipment like that and claims to be an imaging beginner sounds bazzar mate that's all, no ill will at all, it's just funny as far as I am concerned, like posting on a car enthusiast web site "where can I go to and get my Learners permit so I can have some driving lessons in my new BMW M3?"

We (I?) are just jealous too

To answer your question though, the Lagoon/Trifid Nebula area would be the best object at the moment to aim that FSQ at to play around, it is well positioned early in the evening before it gets too cold, it's bright and there is good variation in brightness in the FOV to experiment with what exposures will do best for what sort of faintness and also lots of colours to play with etc
