Nearly Fell off My Chair!!!
Started back at uni again this morning....downloaded this week's lectures and got word on what is expected for this week. Haven't been able to buy the textbook for this semester, yet, as I've been a little short on cash. However, I went to Angus and Robertson online and looked up the text "An Introduction to Modern Astrophysics"....$180.95....which isn't too bad, even though it's a paperback version. Looked up the hardcover version, which has a couple of disks included that have some goodies on the disks....
$395.95!!!!!!!!!! : scared:
As much as I would dearly love to purchase the hardcover, my pockets don't quite extend to those Stygian depths

My sister did an orthoptics degree. Medical texts are unaffordable.

I can imagine just how expensive medical texts are. You need to win the lotto to do a degree these days...you wouldn't have to buy too many books and you'd be hitting the $1500-$2000 mark quite easily.

.... is this what you are looking for? I think $93.59 sounds a bit better, and it is the hardcover version, I believe.
Booko.com.au is an excellent comparison site.
For the record, Amazon UK was $155.47 delievered, and Amazon US was $224.35 delivered.

I buy a lot of novels. I have at least 100 from overseas in the last few years alone. I'd be mad not to be looking for cheap alternatives for the same product.
What is good for Renormalised, is that the cheapie is an Aussie shop, with free shipping!

Here's another shop in Mascot Sydney, that is selling the same book new, but for slightly more than the Fishpond shop, (the price is quoted in US$), but if the Fishpond doesn't have it in stock, then A$103 isn't a bad alternative.
ABEBOOKS is always a good place to look for both new and 2nd-hand books, and some of the prices are amazingly cheap, even if you do have to wait for them to come from overseas, but it's generally not more than a week from US or UK/Europe.

Yeah, I've been to them before, Mike. They're not bad...heaps of titles to look at.

Shane,
Thank you so much for the Booko tip.
I just ordered a book from a mob I found on Booko, for which Amazon were charging almost 4 times as much a while ago.
Cheers.
Regards,
Humayun

Wow what a great find, thanks for the tip. Wish this was around when I went to Uni. I had to work the entire @#$%& holidays just to pay for my bloody books (all of which I still own, sentimental fool that I am ). Have book marked this site as I am having some strange thoughts about returning to do some more study myself. Funny how time dulls the pain .

I know exactly how you feel They had none of these places around when I first started uni...actually they were flat out having PC's!!. But, yeah....took me awhile to get enough money to pay for all my texts, and then I had them pinched a few years ago, along with other stuff
You'll remember the pain I can assure you about that!!

BUT found another book I have been thinking of buying for less than half what I was prepared to pay for it.
This site is the find of the century (of course not quite as exciting as Birds Jupiter impact or any of the recent supernova discoveries, but fantastic none the less). Thanks again Shane.

No problem.
Since I have been here, the members have been nothing but giving, so it is only fitting that I share the love!
That is too good a secret to keep under one's hat.

Spoken like the true "Rimmer" (see Avatar) ...though the "Cat" (my Avatar) thinks you don't have any dress "style". .
Good to see another Red Dwarf fan.
