Introducing myself

Hello,

Just joined this community so I thought I would introduce myself.

My name is Greg and I live on a rural property near Wagga Wagga, NSW. I have always had a love of photography, but a playful experiment one night with a long exposure opened my eyes to the world of astrophotography. I thought to myself what would happen if I put the ISO at it's maximum and opened the aperture at it's widest and held the shutter open for a long time. Could I catch a few stars? By a lucky co-incidence I had the camera pointed at the central bulge of the Milky Way, and the resulting pic instantly blew my mind. I was hooked straight away.
I started to digest as much as possible about astrophotography. Experimented with fixed tripod moon shoots, star trails and static star fields; eventually building myself a barndoor tracker for long exposure work. It was inevitable that I would eventually take the plunge and buy myself a proper astrophotography setup. So a few months ago after much researching, I travelled down to Melbourne and purchased/ordered what I wanted.
I run a 10" F/4 Newtonian on a NEQ6 Pro Goto Mount, with a Synguider Autoguider on an Orion 80mm Shorttube Guidescope. I use my old Canon EOS 1000D (unmodified) to attach to the scope, and my new Canon EOS 60D with a variety of lens's piggyback mounted.

I am here to improve my astrophotography as much as I can, by hopefully learning off this great community.

So....Hello
Cheers

Greg

Good for you Greg. Welcome to the bottomless pit of astro-imaging. Enjoy the ride. It's terrific fun. I'm already jealous of your dark skies.

Hi Greg and

Live just up the road from you at Cootamundra, not a lot of people into astro in the immediate area, plenty down at Albury and with the Border StarGaze coming up next month, http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=71365, a good opportunity for you to get some ideas.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum Greg!
I second Johns suggestion, get yourself over to Border StarGaze.
And don't worry that you won't know anyone. Amateur Astronomers are the friendliest most helpful people you'll find anywhere.

Thank you so much for the welcomes Marc, John and jjjnettie. I love it here already and the feedback on my deep sky image I posted has already been very encouraging as well
I've been meaning to actually join the ASAW. It's only about an hours drive for me, so I think i'll head off to their next general meeting and introduce myself.

Greetings Greg!

Sounds like you're off to a good start with the gear you have.

Plenty of resources here to learn and as Marc says, welcome to the bottomless pit !!

Thanks for the welcome Graeme. I posted one of my first images to the deep space folder. It's titled "Laggon Nebula M8"

Hey Greg!
I would ask you what's up, but that's never a good idea on an astronomy forum.
