Hasn't come up to bad Duncan but the biggest improvemnt will be extending the legth of the subs out quite a bit. This will raise your signal to noise ratio and make processing a lot easier.

I meant to ask what happend to your HEQ5? Remember our discussion a while back!

Duncan, your data acquisition is now impeccable. You just need to focus on processing to bring the best out of it. That's a great picture you've got there. A bit burnt out though. You might want to look into the trial version of CCD Stack. It has one of the best DDP implementation around. Give it a go, compare and see if it works for you. Again you've captured some superb data there. Keep it up

Thanks Marc, coming from the the people who post some great images on here, thats praise indeed.

Again, when i processed it on my laptop, there was ALOT more to see. But on here, its really quite dark, i think i will put CS4 on my HTPC, and just work on my pictures on that.

again, thanks for the encouragement.

From what you've displayed here and looking at the equipment it was taken with IMHO it's as good as it gets. Now there is a lot you can do in processing. DDP being one of the most important thing to bring out smoothly the whole dynamic range. I used Neb2, DSS, tried importing FITS directly in PS CS3/4. In my experience CCD Stack is on a league of its own that's why I said give it a go you've got nothing to lose and if it doesn't knock your socks off then you can come back to this thread and give me a hard time

Wow, you have done well haven't you.
Lots and lots of detail.
Are you going to keep adding data to this one? It would be worth it.

Looks like that newly acquired autoguider is working well for you Duncan

Any particular reason why you limited your subs to 3minutes?

well done....keep it up.

cheers
Martin

Thanks Martin.

Noise and fogging, although i have recently been messing around with settings, and can now get 6 min subs with just about the same noise. I also use an Astronomiks CLS clip in filter for EOS cameras, and i find that it does a great job of blocking LP, but if there are any brightish stars near by, then the whole background gets over exposed, again i am tackling this by shooting objects when they get near the zenith.

its a work in progress, that frought with learning things, and coated with a healthy does of frustration.
