iPhone astrophotography

Hello all,

This is a pic of the moon taken by my iPhone. The complex technique is as follows: 1. Find moon in scope. 2. Place friend on other end of iPhone on speaker phone. 3. Take swig of James Squire Porter for stability. 4. Stick iPhone at eyepiece - preferably with camera lens pointing towards eyepiece. 5. Press button. 6. Send to friend.

Wow!!!

All you need to do now is mod it with a peltier and cool it down. You'll be taking top piccies in no time!!!

A few more swigs of the Jimmy Squire will fortify the tracking, though

Thanks Carl. I am in fact planning several mods to the technique - amber ale, golden ale, pilsener.

I'd recommend the pilsener, it'll stiffen up the tracking mount more than the others

By the way, you may find that the old Bundy Rum keeps all the associated mechanisms warm from the inside out .

Yes, Kerrie, the iPhone is a very good device. Can get a bit temperamental at times but is a godsend for work - emails, texting, internet, astropics!

Was that on the new or old iPhone?
The only reason I ask is I have tried to do this but couldnt.... obviously not fortified with the right stuff!

Hi Adrian,

The iPhone is only a few months old but was done with pre version 3.0 software. The camera though hasn't changed I don't think. It was a matter of taking quite a few shots and getting the one that was most focussed. You can see the moon on the screen and when you are happy(ish) just press!
