Grey Triffid (M20)

Having spent a night getting luminance data, I foolishly thought I'd be able to get colour data on the following night.....

Of course it is now raining in Sydney.

That said, inspired by a new book by one D. Malin....I put a bit more effort into this B&W image that I normally do....

Peter,

Oh, my. When this one's finished, you can claim your 2010 Malin Award.

Leon, while there are still a few things I need to fix in this technicolor world...there are still shades of gray

Indeed, I think B&W is very much about light and shade....the triffid has much to offer there

Stunning detail Peter, nice and smooth - just lovely! Yep, putting extra effort into Lum is never wasted! Ten bucks says you end up stretching it a bit more though. Can't wait to see the colour of course. And don't get me started on Sydney weather - the clouds out west here are downright vindictive!!

Cheers, Marcus

Fantastic shot there, Peter. Can't wait to see the colour shot, but I've always been of the opinion that nothing can pass the clarity and sharpness of a good B & W shot. They have that "edge" about them.

Great work

Thanks Marcus . BTW ...My cheerful prediction is your even more delightful Corona Aust shot should do very well at CWAS this year

What can I say? B&W can still be cool.

Due the ever wasteful light pollution from Sydney, nearly all my subs are 600 seconds minimum. In this case a stack of 7....guess that's 70 minutes

Filtered I'd run 900 sec subs.

STL11k, guided with the AOL...but don't look too closely as I used a 2" nosepiece instead of my normal threaded fitting ...and it didn't go in quite square.. but should be fixable with non-centroidal stacking.

Looks great Peter, looks like some sharp processing went into this one?

A change from all the Ha Trifid images being posted positioned on the left or right with nothing in the other half of the image

Ok you guys, the Ha only shots look ok too

Mike

Thanks...I think it's getting there. Not a lot of processing at all, as the raw data was pretty good. There is a 15% USM to keep the deaded "doughnuts" at bay but give it just a bit more snap.

Very nice image, you know when those two stars in core are cleanly split that it will turn out great.

Beautiful image. I always enjoy a good B&W image, it kinda takes the emotion out of a shot.

Thanks Ken. Actually the core system has a binary and triple star. The close companions in the triple look elongated in many images. I have split
them with very short exposures on nights of excellent seeing.
