I like Mars!

While setting up to image Mars this morning, I had my usual look through the eyepiece first to determine how good or bad the seeing is, and whether I should actually bother to get out all the imaging gear.

Had the 9mm plossl @138x, and could tell immediately that the seeing was great! Saw some very nice detail in Mare Cimmerium, Mare Tyrennhum and a rising Syrtis Major and Hellas. I could've pushed the magnification to double that, but I was keen to get the webcam in place of the eyepiece and capture some of what I was seeing!

Only a couple more weeks until it's at its biggest, I can't wait for the views from the ballarat star camp, I hope we get some good seeing down there.

Anyway i'll post my Mars images later, they're my best ever!

Sure, I've got a 2x GSO barlow and/or a 2.4x Intec barlow (both 1.25" barrel) that you could buy off me, cheap.

Nope, not yet. Haven't done enough eyeball time yet to worry about filters. But plan to try out some of those colour filters I just "had to have" to see if they make a difference.

I am interested and will be guided by you as to which is the best of the two (2.4 preferably for a good mix of viewing, but mainly imaging with toucam)

I would love to get asap if possible re mars and all!

can you pm your bsb?

do you want me to send a return airbag?

Good idea, send me a return airbag and I'll chuck both of them in. You can try them both and decide which one you want.

I used both the 2x and 2.4x for my dob-based imaging before I got the tracking platform.

You should give it a go! Between 1am - 2am is the best time at the moment, when it's directly north.
