Shades of Autumn

Late afternoon light gently illuminates this scene of beautiful trees on the side of a hill in Arrowtown.

I made this image with the purpose of showcasing the amazing colours of Autumn.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
1/4s f/16.0 at 40.0mm iso100

Slightly larger resolution available here.

Comments, critique, etc., most welcome.

Regards,
Humayun

Nice. I like the colours and their balance to the brown foreground. My eye keeps wanting a little more of the top of the trees, but I suspect having that might ruin it

Humayun,
If you ever want colours, and have plenty of money for a trip, Northern USA has some perfect Autumn (er..Fall) colours in late Sept / October.
There is so much more, of an abundance of colours, that what we get in Aus.
It's a photographers dream. Man, HDR heaven. Hehehe.

I love these types of shots... Good work.

Adam,

As warm as the colours are, it was bitterly cold. Cheers!

Roger,

Thanks, mate. And, yes, you're right, any more up the top would have ruined the image as it was barren for a bit, and then some more dark green trees up the hill. Just wouldn't have fit.

Brett,

I would love, love, /love/ to visit the northwest of USA. But, for now, New Zealand will have to do.

As much success as I had with my HDR work, I've given up on it entirely. I wish to learn how to create a similar effect by capturing light at the right time of day and doing as little as possible in post. I enjoy looking at other people's renditions in HDR, but, have stopped doing them myself.
