Apparently, Michael Jackson has passed away

Unconfirmed reports, but probably true given the media's sudden lock down on information on him. I hope it isn't, irrespective of his oddness, brilliant singer and songwriter. Not a super huge fan, but I do have a lot of respect for him and it'd be sad to see him gone.

It's all over twitter right now.

I wasn't a huge fan but did love some of his stuff, a very talented guy.

Certainly the end of an era.

Jeez - along with Farrah Fawcett, who's lost to cancer. She's died at 62. A sombre day in LA today.

Very sad. Unique and extremely talented and versatile artist. Left his mark for sure.

My thread might be a bit premature according to this link. Nothing is being confirmed, which makes me really suspicious that he has indeed passed away. They're probably waiting for all of the familly to get there and make a joint statement.

some of his clips like Thriller and Billie Jean were (imho) unforgettable. I guess I grew up in that era. Much maligned artist, greatly misunderstood. I think he remained very much a little child for his entire life, something that's not a bad thing imho.

Yes, that is sad news as well. Not a huge fan, but still sad news.

That's a shame.

I feel very sad for his family and friends.

I also think it's sad he didn't get the chance to get back out on the road and do what he did best - perform.

A genuinely talented and unique human being, whom I suspect was terribly misunderstood.

Oh, did Farrah finally pass on. How sad.
She'd still be here if she wasn't so vain. Surgery would probably have cured her but she didn't want to have to wear the inevitable colostomy bag. Guess it's hard to find shoes to match.

Michael Jackson died? Never was a fan. Must say that better people than him pass on every day with barely a whisper of appreciation for all they've done in the community.

Yes, I'm a sour puss cranky pants.

I was never a fan of much of his stuff but ......I agree absolutely, largely deprived of a real childhood by his father which inevitably contributed to his psychological issues (and downright weirdness). I reckon he tried to reclaim his childhood as an adult.

A sad end considering he was in the throws of getting his career back on track.

ABC news has recently confirmed it.

Sad to see him go. I grew up with his hits and rather liked a bit of his music, although I would never have seen him in concert.

Got a cousin who 25 years ago was obsessed with him (befire he started on transforming his physical image). Posters all over the bedroom wall, all his music, etc, etc, etc,. She was estatic when she won tickets to see him plus meet him back stage. After it was over, she mellowed out and said he's just a normal bloke, nothing too great.

50 is too young to die like that.

I'll give my Thriller LP a spin at the next opportunity. He gave the world some great music.

From the news reports:-

"The shows for the 50 London concerts sold out within hours of going on sale earlier this year..... There have been concerns about Jackson's health in recent years but the promoters of the London concerts, AEG Live, said in March that Jackson had passed a four-and-a-half hour physical examination with independent doctors."

I bet AEG Live are "spittin' chips" and looking at their insurance policies.

Sadly he had no childhood and tried to recreate it as an adult. I agree he is greatly misunderstood. Real talent like his comes along so infrequently.

Agreed. He was not treated very nicely by society, and that is a very sad thing.
