M104 - the galaxy that started it for me.

Well I finally got the chance to capture the galaxy that started my interest in astronomy. Last year I spotted an image of M104 and had it as my desktop while I read these forums and searched for a scope.

Clouds cleared in Sydney the other night and I decided to see what I could get of it.
12 x 2min + darks & flats. iso1600, 100ed unguided. Stacked in DSS and the usual tweaking in PS.
Unfortunately the camera had less battery power than I thought so I couldn't get more shots.

Have attached the full frame and a crop.

Its certainly not to the standard of the shot that was on my desktop but I'm happy .

Well Brett, it is a pretty simple basic image but the wide version has a very sobering quality about it, it really shouts how deep and dark but amazing our Universe is huh..?

Congratulations, top shot

Gidday Brett,

How have you been?

Sure looks like you have got a really good grasp on the gear, practice practice practice must be reaping dividends for you.

I'm with Mike, the widefield shot is really nice and you should be justifiably proud of it - well done mate.

All the best and don't forget about coming down to Waterfall at some point.

Wayne

Nice image of this little tacker..... It's always nice to visit old friends.

Keep at it. Your guiding and focus look pretty good.

Thanks guys, yep I still get a buzz when I throw the camera on the scope and it takes the first shot. You gaze into the little screen to see whats there and a little blob appears .

Hi Wayne, nope I haven't forgotten about Waterfall. Just have to find the right Saturday when I'm free and the weather is fine in Sydney .
