Jupiter in good seeing

Got my first good capture of Jupiter tonight with Ganymede transiting. Seeing was around 6.5-7.0 at times. Good detail can be seeing through the image but of interest is that Red spot Jupiter is now a tan colour rather than the red it was last year and the year before. There is a great spot on the northern polar region that looks pretty interesting too.

My goodness me – that is a cracker of an image, rich in fine detail and subtle tones. There appears to be some nice detail on Ganymede too, which surprises me as I expected the glare of Jupiter might well have washed this out.

Cheers

A very fine image Paul,

Exceptionally fine detail and most delicate structure. Love just how well defined Ganymede is, it does have that 3D look about it.

The limb of the planet is exceptionally sharp. Each time I come back to this image of yours I seem to pick out more detail than on my previous visit.

Very well captured and superbly processed.

This high pressure system looks like there may be good seeing right through to the weekend.

Well done
Definitely worth the wait
Regards
Trevor

Thanks guys,

Bird, looks like Jupiter season has now started. With any luck we will get some good seeing in the next month or so.

added an image of Ganymede and the detail captured. Might be interesting to see one of Bird's image close up too, to confirm if the detail is real.

WOW guys!!

That extra resolving power of a large scope sure makes all the difference in detail.

Awesome images.

It's real alright Paul, amazing. Check here:

http://space.jpl.nasa.gov/

I inputted Ganymede, from Earth, FOV 0.01 degrees, 16 June 17:00 UT (guess at time, but G didn't change).

Cheers -

Wow thanks Rob, how cool is that to capture real detail not just something that looks like detail. Man I want some really nice seeing now and Ganymede to roll past again.

Paul!......Maaaaaate!.... Very cool. I rarely ever get seeing like that in my neck of the woods (and one of the reasons I rarely do planets).

Award winning stuff. Very nicely done

I live in hope mate. Oh to win an award.

We get about 10 seeing events per year I guess in Adelaide that are above 7/10. Some years more some less.

Clayton is where I am hedging my betts. Seeing is often good there, but I have had such a busy time this year, I have not had the chance to really test out the place.
