Again it is in the hubble colours (sort of) SII Ha OIII

I dunno...I think it is growing on me, my eyes are not too subjective now, probably becasue I am the one processing it so I see it develop thus the end product seems to look ok

I am concentrating on getting the basic quality and subtle details in there and then the colouring is pretty subjective after that....

No I've actually had this data for a little while actually...just been waiting for the right time to be bothered processing it

Thanks Dave, I'm pretty "green" at this narrow band stuff too

These nebulae are between the Southern Cross and the Eta Carina Nebula, worth a look under dark skies with a big scope.

I like it. Wonderful shot, nice and sharp and a great FOV.

I've also seen this area done with an FSQ (I did a Ha only of this area with an FSQ once)
and NGC3576 is actually in a giant sea of gas there. I have seen it presented as heavily red and
it looked pretty stunning.

Yes Bert, the Nova is very prominent and quite blue/green in my image, indicating strong Halpha.

Cheers Eddie, one of the advatages of a medium FL (1140mm in this case) as it means enough FL to provide plenty of detail and still provide a wide FOV

Seems there are a number of ways to present these colours, Don Goldman used salmon pinks and grey blue and got a good result too.

Having such a nice size field with sufficient FL is pretty handy as it allows the object/s to be presented in a number of framings at different magnifications and stuill maintain high levels of detail, I think my favourite framing is this one:

Yes that framing is best.

If you want more of the mustard colours you would have to push curves up on the red channel hard if you are assigning each narrowband to a channel in Photoshop or use a higher combine ratio for the O111 and S11 if doing a colour combine otherwise Ha as green will dominate. A ratio of 4 or 6 for red might even be needed.

In a nut shell I think narrow band images should in fact generally be dominant in what ever colour you asign Ha to (in this case green) becasue Ha is far more abundant just like LRGB images of nebulae are Red dominant. Of course NB imaging is a dark art so anything goes and it comes down to your interpretation of aesthetics.

In any case, very nice image mate (naturally) . Have you thought about a barlow? Definitely prefer the cropped version (your favoured framing) - very nice! I must try this target again one day to get both objects in the field. Again, I like the subtle changes in colour indicating varying emissions of the three elements. A cyan colour in the centres of the 2 nebulas, grading to a Chartreuse in the outer parts

Yes considered a barlow but to date I have been so jealous of my time at the scope (no perm obs) I like the fact that I can kinda take several images in one by cropping . The extra FL doesn't really provide much more detail really but reduces the FOV. Your narrow+wide band combo has been pushed far harder than mine with nearly twice the exposure time so it shows some pretty good detail in the bright bits but it is hard to compare as I was trying hard for a natural look (is that possible with NB????) plus the seeing on the night I took mine was pretty crap too (actually my new site seems to make a habit of this so I may have to move?) so pushing any harder would have just been a bad approach. Getting detail and maintaining a natural appearence is actually pretty hard, the more exposure you have and aperture of course, the better.

Hey mate when you get into the real World and collect yourself a nice new FLI CCD and colour filterwheel instead of that pretend camera you will be able to partake in this dark art of wacko colours too

Yes the NJP mount is incredible, it chases the seeing very well even the witch head nebula image I did at Wiruna last year was taken in amazing ly bad conditions of high wind and bad seeing but mate watching the star centroid plot was incredible it just wouldn't let the star get away I feel pretty lucky really

Glad you like it Fred pssst!... this actually was a Ha SII Ha OIII blend just didn't say so becasue it really makes little difference IMO ...might just be the way I do things though....

Ah yes the dark art of wacko NB Looks like OIII is strong in the centres and Ha dominates in the fainter regions..?
