ETX-125 Wedge

My son wants to use his ETX-125 polar mounted for some photography. The Standard 884 tripod can be set for altitude but to adjust the azimuth requires rotating the whole tri-pod anawkward and inaccurate process. I told him I would make him a wedge with micrometer adjusments.

I had an unused tripod with cheap equatorial head on it and decided to remove the head (just required to undo the attaching bolt) and use this as the base.

A day and a half in the garage, a raid on the scrap steel and aluminium box, and I came up with this. Works perfectly.

Looks great Barry. I'm in the middle of building a wedge for an old Meade DS Autostar head, but my work doesn't look nearly a smick as yours. The adjusters look like a great idea.

Cheers,
Jason.

I have a lathe, welder, grider, band saw, drill press etc. I am a messy welder. Can't see what I am doing most of the time. However an angle ginder and a can of spray paint can make a messy job look great.

Here are a couple of sketches of the parts

I like how he always blames me.......... for his ideas.

Still, I get the benefit of a great engineer.
