Postcard from Lake Tekapo

Hi all.

Have found a little time time to get another 'postcard' together during my holiday in NZ.

We've had a fabulous time the last few days. The Southern Alps really are among the most spectacular sights I've seen. Just superb.

Here's an image from Lake Tekapo...taken within hours of arrival.

It's a real challenge getting the exposure right for the brightness of the snow and the darker foreground. I think I did OK.

We arrived in Dunedin tonight. We'll be doing a quick look around in the morning...before heading for the Catlins national park and Invercargill tomorrow night.

Cheers.

Hi Matt

Top shot! I love the early morning lighting and how it highlights the faces of the boulders in the foreground. You’ve also managed to retain detail in the snow – it’s not blown out nor does it appear a dull gray tone, which is often what happens when the exposure meter attempts to render it mid-grey.

The weather looks gorgeous!

Cheers

Dennis

PS – Queensland got home 28-18 yay; the score doesn’t really tell the full story as NSW came back strongly towards the end!

Hi Matt,

Lovely image, a post card indeed, love the reflections and the balance the rocks in the foreground provide to the vista.

Beautiful work.
Cheers

Matt,

That's gorgeous!

Did you use a circular polarizer on this one?

Thanks everyone, for your kind comments.

H - I can't be fully certain, but I think I may have used a CP. If so, I had it dialled in fairly lightly.

At your suggestion, I also captured the 'obligatory' Church of the Good Shepherd' shots. I'll post one shortly for you. I'm thinking of a nicely contrasted black and white...or maybe something with a slight yellow/golden tint
