Used dob prices in Oz

We're in the initial stages of planning our emigration to Oz next year and I'm wondering whether to bring my 12" dob with me or sell it and buy another when I get over.

Can anyone advise me as to how much do second hand 12" dobs cost in Oz?

I got this one for £200 ($400). A very good deal on a scope which was only a year old and was £500 ($1000) new. (Revelation 12)

We'll be shipping some of our stuff over anyone so my gut feeling is to just bring it and save the hastle of buying another.

Cheers

Paul

Hi paul

Sounds a good price .. can't recall them showing up here that cheap
You'd probably drive across Scotland to pick up a second hand scope .
You might come across one close by down under but some have a 1000km or more between you and it.. and not everyone keeps the packing .

cheers graham

If the scope is in excellent condition, I would get a quote on insured delivery to get it across then decide on the value.

It might cost a bit but possibly under what a new 12" Dob would be over here.

Hi,

I see Revelations are basically GSO dobs rebadged. As you may know a new 12" GSO solid tube dob here is about AU$1100-1200 with the usual basic eyepieces included, maybe less if there is a special on.

There seems to be a definite move now on the part of retailers to stock more the truss tube designs in that size. They cost about AU$1400-1500 or more.

At least on this forum used dobs in good condition seem to go for about 75% of new on average (there is of course a range of variation in that).

Hope this assists

Hi Paul

EK ... havent been there in a while, i used to go out with a lassie from St.Leonards, and drink in "My Fathers Moustache"

prices here are ever so slightly higher, but not by much. Tell you what, when you get here you can buy my immaculate 12" collapsible dob, might cheer you up to know you got it from a weegie.

Thanks for the replies folks,

Duncan, I'm in St. Leonards too! The "Tash" is still there too but I haven't been there often.

I can see the appeal of truss type dobs but we're trying to save as much as possible for the emigration so I suspect I'll just end up packing the solid tube dob and bringing it in the container (insured).

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul, if it's coming in a container it's not going to cost you anything but the insurance, so in my opinion you have picked the best option
