Most Distant Galaxy

Iye Ota Kashikawa - 1 (IOK-1) is thought to be the most distant galaxy known. It is 12.88 billion light years away. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOK-1

The attached wikisky.org image shows its location in Com with a yellow square.
The elongated galaxy at lower right is NGC 5116. It is only 130 million light years away and has B mag 13.7.
The galaxy 8' above NGC 5116 is IC 4234. It is 450 Mly away.

Mind-boggling stuff. If few galaxies are found further back in time than this it certainly confirms the age of the Universe as well as giving us a look into galaxy formation in the early Universe.

wow,. and it's actually quite bright compared to some of the foreground objects!
