Google's Wave is coming to swamp you

"A team of Google engineers from Australia has unveiled a prototype replacement for standard email that abandons the reliance on the chronological sorting and stacking of messages which has been the hallmark of one of the internet's first and still most popular applications. Christened Google Wave, the new feature was given its first public viewing in San Francisco earlier this morning Australian time at Google's annual developers' conference...
Wave - which began life as a project codenamed Walkabout - is a combination of email and instant messaging and document-, maps- image- and video-sharing all housed under one roof..."

"A "wave" is equal parts conversation and document, where people can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more."

I think the Great Satan, Microsoft, is more afraid of Google than Apple.

Yes so he should be, I must admit I do not use anything from microsoft other than operating system and Worldwide Telescope. Even then I would use Linux except there are some programs I need that can only run specifically on Windows.
From the richest man in the world comes the most expensive. If he is that rich he can afford to make thing cheaper and he may not get worried.

I use Google extensively for a lot of things, along with Open Office.

Yes the latest version of Open Office runs very nicely, much better than earlier versions. I hope Google hammers Microsoft's hold on email software. Thoroughly sick of corrupted attachments (winmail.dat files) generated by Outlook. Firefox, Opera and Chrome all leave MS's browser efforts behind.

Will it base the sort order on who pays the most like all the other google programs? Ah no, it will just hyperlink everything you say to its sponsors and chew up your bandwidth with vacuous drivel. Welcome to web 2.0

Behind Google's new Wave of innovation

"Wave, say the Rasmussen brothers, is what email would be if it was invented today. It brings multiple communication tools including instant messaging, blogs, wikis and even Twitter under one roof and also combines file and document sharing.
All of this is delivered inside the browser without special programs or plug-ins and done in real time with the simplicity of a drag-and-drop interface...
And there are at least three impressive byproducts of this project. Spelly is an amazing real-time spell-checker. The translation tool delivers instantaneous, word-by-word translations in about 40 languages. And the playback feature allows users to rewind then replay an entire conversation thread, step-by-step."
