Finally got DSS to stack 6 of 9 frames to get this image of Omega Centauri ... I still don't know why it didn't stack all the frames

I had to abort around half a dozen exposures due to guiding chucking a wobbly ... I suspect there was some cloud out there in the darkness ... I had no idea there was 'till I stepped out of the obs and saw the sinking moon to the west shrowded in cloud ... a few expletives had been thrown around in the observatory when I had to abort so many shots before giving up out of frustration. It was still good to get out for an hour or so and do some colour imaging again with guiding exposures between 0.5 and 1 sec max instead of the 2-4sec needed with the Ha filter attached. I also used my 4 inch WO Flat68 field flattener instead of my MPCC this time and I think it was an improvement.

Total 27 minute exposure @-15C
slight crop to clean up edges from stacking

p.s. I tried stacking my Ha images of M17 from last week after having achieved some success with this shot but DSS still only stacked 1 10minute exposure out of the five I shot I don't get it

re deepsky stacker

adjust the star counter to count more stars, perhaps you have the setting too low. once youve stacked the image and saved it, push the register button to return to the files and check all the details.... no of stars exposure times frame size etc, that may give you a clue as to whats happening.

Good one Steve. Now that's up close and personal. Stars, too many to think about let alone count.

Very nicely resolved to the core.

Exactly my thoughts, one of the better Omega images I've seen!

I think I may have had the star counter too high for a while but I adjusted it down to 15% before stacking this image ... still only stacking 6 of 9 ... I just tried it at 25% same result

Thanks for input Clive ... I'll keep at it. I wish there was a way of completely resetting DSS to original settings and see if that works but I don't see any option for that anywhere. As I've said before I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program but no effect.

Cheers Doug ... it's not much of a crop so this is pretty well my fov with flt110 and st2000xcm ( approx 85% at a rough guess ).
