Cannon 500 D

Hi All,
I have just preordered a 500 D to replace a 1000 D I purchased in January presuming it was an adequate camera for Astro imaging. I have since been informed 1000 D is substandard in certain aspects compared to other medium level entry DSLR's. I presume 15.1 megapixles and Digic 4 processor and 14 Bits over 12 Bits would be a vast improvement in image quality - pardon my newbyness, but if anyone can clarify and let me know if I am making the right decision it would be greatly appreciated because if anyone knows it's you guys.

You've made the right decision, and your presumptions are correct.

See if you can pick up an old 350D and have it modified for astrophotography. Then see if you want to do the same to your 500D when it arrives.
