Scope Pimpin'

I thought I better post some pics of the current state of mods on my LB16 as its taking longer to do than I thought and I have talked about it so long that some people might have begun to think my middle name was 'Mitty'.

Heres a link to my thread on SGL forums because I just can't face typing all that again!!

BTW, how do you find the JMI motor? I was thinking of getting one for my 12" LB. Can it be hooked up to and argo navis?

Thanks
Sandy

Hi Sandy,

It can work without impeding the functioning of the argo but it can't interface with the Argo for goto if thats what you mean. In my case I will be using my modified orion Intelliscope DSC with it. I slect the object on the Intelliscope. Push to it manually, then one manually adjusts the speed of the altitude and azimuth motors till one has centered and canceled drift in the EP. Its a straight line tracking vector one has manually set and as objects travel in an arc across the sky, this means that the object will drift out of the FOV after about 10-15 minutes whereupon one re-adjusts the motors speed to set another straightline track that gets you another 10 or 15 minutes etc. The TNT has no computer brain like a servocat that might interface with a DSC like an ARGO. Thats why its much cheaper than a servocat. Its no where near as sophisticated. But if you aren't bothered about a lack of goto and a 15 minute tracking time between manual re-adjustments doesn't bother you then its a cheap alternative.

ROFL

Nice job Keith, I've done this sort of thing with my Desktop PC.
I love the setup with the dew heater controls. Can you post a close up of it - the controller and all the switches. I love neat wiring installs like this!

LOL. You got that right. I'd have gone mental if I didn't get some astro related fix like this with the weather we have. It also turns out that as bad as things usually are in Ireland astronomy weather wise, I happened to get into the hobby right at the beginning of the worst 18 month period that any of the other long time Irish guys can remember.

Stephan. I'll take close up pics of the Dew controller when I finish the wiring and can get all the LED switchs lit up. 6 of the outputs are power outputs so the LED's on those switches will stay lit. However Ron at Dewbuster informs me that as the heater outputs use PWM this means that those corresponding LED's will flash as the heaters are pulsed. Should look pretty cool.

Took a break from the scope mods for the week because the weather has been great here. I could barely stand the heat. It got to 21ºC today!!!
