Astronomy Holidays - Queensland

Hi All,
Does anyone know of any "resorts" in Queensland that specialise in Astronomy based get-aways?

Cheers in advance

Doug

Hi Doug, I only know of one place at Stanthorpe, it's not really a resort but you can hire there scopes for the evening I believe.
sorry I don't have the contact details at present you could try a google search.

Doug,

The resort is not wholly astronomy-focused, but if you just happened to find yourself on Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays, there's an observatory there with five telescopes. It's open to the public regularly during April - November, and is staffed by experienced amateurs.

Hamilton Island has an astronomy program with a scope in a Sirius dome .
Twinstar Guesthouse at Ballendean near Stanthorpe has an 18"scope in a Astrodome, you can visit the wineries and Fruit growing areas during the day and the sky at night.
Eiji Kato and Naomi Tanaka are vey nice people and will look after you very nicely, you can contact them by email at twin-star@bigpond.com or by phone/fax 4684 1135.
I helped erect the dome. astroron

There is one in Far NQ up on the tablelands at Chilligoe, it is run by the people who run the scope shop in Cairns "Sun Coast Optical"
They have cabins, an observitory & a 12" Newt.

You might want to have a look at the public observatory at Maidenwell near Kingaroy. They have 3, 14" Meade SCTs and a solar observatory as well. Open to the public most nights I think.
