Replacement mains adapter for Notebook computer.

Hello,

Well, the original 5 year old mains adapter, 16V 4.5A (72W), for my IBM R40 ThinkPad made a fizzing noise, followed by a bang, then began to smell and stopped working last night.

I noticed that Jaycar has a multi-voltage unit that covers the 16V range with a rating of 150W. As physical size is not an issue, I was thinking of getting the 150W model so it runs less hot, as the IBM unit used to get quite warm to the touch.

Has anyone had any experience with the Jaycar unit?

Cheers

Dennis

Dennis, I ran a Jaycar unit with my old R50 with no problems. Would run it with my R61 but cant remember where I put the plug adapters since they changed the size of the plugs.

Thanks guys! I can get an OEM replacement for around $50, but the Jaycar unit has the advantage that it can be configured (voltage range and centre pin polarity) for several different pieces of equipment, such as my Tak mount, etc. should the R40 eventually die on me.

Cheers
