Shadows and Light – from the cutting room floor!

Hello,

With a week long drenching forecast for Brisbane, I went walkabouts at the Qld Uni St Lucia campus on Sunday morning, where I managed to grab some more shots, motivated by the monthly comp theme, Shadows and Light. All have been processed in CS3 to correct for various shortcomings.
  • The water skier has benefitted from applying a blue filter, as the Brisbane River is one muddy, dirty brown, piece of water!
  • The foliage on the concrete wall had a Gaussian blur applied to add a diffuse glow to the leaves, to help lift them off the wall.
  • The saturation and contrast of the beautiful sandstone blocks in the arches and pillars have been boosted, to offset the washed out look from the bright sun shine.
Thanks for looking!

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks for posting these Dennis. I always love your work.
Must admit that the sandstone arches are my favourites.

I agree, all these are wonderful but I too love the sandstone arches.
Dennis your entry of the kitchen knife is just fantastic, I love macro shots like this.

That last image would be a contender in my books (though there is nothing wrong with your knife image either!). Thanks for sharing

Thank you for your nice words of appreciation. As most of you know, I’m generally more of a recorder of scenes as seen, such as on day trips and holidays, so it was quite illuminating to go out with the specific intention of looking for shadows. However, I still had the camera on “P” or program mode – next time I’ll remember to switch to manual to optimize exposure and depth of field, to unleash all that dormant creativity; it seems my camera is smarter than me!!!

We almost came to grief, as there was a huge “million paws” dog walk just finishing at the St Lucia campus as we arrived!

Cheers

Dennis
