Graham,
In my humble opinion, I would say, keep plodding along with the eq6 pro. Like you I have been very frustrated trying to learn to drift align. By saying this, IN NO MEANS AM I SUGGESTING THAT AN ARGO NAVIS IS NOT ONE OF THE MOST WORTHWHILE ITEMS I OWN. I just think you need to keep at it with the PRO Mount.
Polar alignment is just something you need to do alot, get used to it.
I now have three rings painted on the concrete in the backyard (Oddly enough where there was once a close line) whack the mount down, and am normally pretty close to the Octans asterism.
If you've got a laptop, or access to a desktop that you don't mind taking outside, get EQ Align - Freeware to help learn how to drift align.
I have only just done this in the last week, been clouded out, typical! but got in about an hour last night and seemed to pick up the basics. I'm sure there are lots of other people on the forums who can speak to the softwares effectiveness / accuracy
In relation to the EQ6 - Pro, try for a 3 star alignment, gives greater goto accuracy. Also check to make sure your imputing your location and times correctly, remember the date appears MMDDYYYY.
I've only had my pro about 6 Months, but love the goto, it's accurate, but demands the input of correct initial data. Another three star align after a couple of hours observing doesn't hurt the goto function either.
Take it easy.
Darren.
