Eta Carina Steeped in Oxygen

Moonshine is a pain, but with an Oxygen (O-III) filter on an unmodified DSLR at least you can grab an image of a bright nebula.

Here's Eta Carina bubbling away in oxygen. Looks like there's plenty of the stuff out there. Maybe in a gazillion years it will find its way to a habitable planet.

This pic demonstrates that moonlit nights needn't be a total loss.

It also demonstrates that if you've only got an unmodded camera and you get tempted to reduce the blue and green channels, in favor of cranking up the red channel, you could be throwing away lots of data.

Subject: Eta Carina with Oxygen (O-III) filter
Exposure: 48x2mins
Scope: 8" Meade Schmidt Newt
Mount: EQ-6 autoguided

Very nice Bill, I have noticed that DSLR's are fairly sensitive to OIII. The main reasom Tarantula comes out blue when imaged with a DSLR unmodified.
Nice clear image with nice round stars.
