Fern Field

This image wasn't a planned shot. I made it after having photographed around the Lake Gunn area. I was on my way out back out to Te Anau and happened to drive by this scene, in late evening, and the light looked just right. I quickly unpacked my gear, composed, focused and shot for 30 seconds.

For printing, I have previsualised a 1:1 crop, which will be centred around the main fern in the foreground, rather than the entire 3:2 scene. I don't know, both may work?

The light falling on the right-hand side of the tree trunks does it for me. It was such brilliant light. I've had to mask the background a little, as at 30 seconds, the sky and foliage in the rear, was exposed several stops greater than the rest of the scene.

Slightly higher resolution found here.

Comments and critique, as always, most welcome.

Regards,
Humayun

Probably agree on the crop for printing. Those non-fern plants on the right are a little distracting and the image looks much cleaner without them. Good eye.

Jen,

Hah! The ferns really are everywhere over there. It's amazing. Thanks.

Troy,

Glad I wasn't the only one who found the far-right a bit distracting.
