Its the time of year to review The Darwin Awards

Many of you are probably familiar with the Darwin Awards. For those that aren't, the premise is this:

A Chronicle of Enterprising Demises
Honoring those who improve the species...by
accidentally removing themselves from it!

Some of the stories are hilarious in a tragically funny way. This is one of my favourites:
(28 February 2000, Texas) A Houston man earned a succinct lesson in gun safety when he played Russian roulette with a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol. Rashaad, nineteen, was visiting friends when he announced his intention to play the deadly game. He apparently did not realize that a semiautomatic pistol, unlike a revolver, automatically inserts a cartridge into the firing chamber when the gun is cocked. His chance of winning a round of Russian roulette was zero, as he quickly discovered.

And another good one:
(2 August 2002, Kansas) An Olathe man was struck and killed by a train after his vehicle broke down on Interstate 35. His attempts to repair his car had failed, so he stepped away from the busy freeway to call for help. As luck would have it, he chose to stand on the train tracks paralleling the road. When the train engineer spotted him standing on the tracks, the man was holding a cell phone to one ear and cupping his hand to the other ear to block the noise of the oncoming locomotive.

Anyways, have a look at the website, lots of funny stories:

I got my son the latest release for x-mass .

A friend showed me a newspaper report from central aus recently.. I think which.. was just staggering .. Maybe Its already in there for an honerable mention ... if not it should be .

A guy and his friend leave a pub in central australia and drive off down the road.. someone at the pub mentioned they needed to find something
to put in the empty fish tank at some stage .... at some point down the road after presumably quite a few more beers they pass a huge king brown curled up on the side of the road.. perfect candidate for a life in a fish tank yeah ?.. back you go and catch it
Now it would be sensible even without quite a few beers under your belt to put down your beer and try and use your favoured hand to grab the sucker .. no .. keep your beer in one hand and reach with the other .. the snake wasn't quite agreeable
to a lifestyle change.. and ripped into his hand .. even tearing a good piece of flesh in the process..still the intrepid snake handler managed to get it in the bag so to speak
and head off back to town to seek medical help for the obviously higly toxic bite he recieved.. For some reason in transit he stuck his hand back in the bag with the snake in it .. and the quite understandably the enraged snake was happy to vent its anger at its prediciment and bit him a further 8 times.. The driver tried to keep his friend awake by shakeing him and tipping beer on his head .. when they finaly got medical help after going back to the pub of course ... they had to amputate his arm at the shoulder because of all the venom .. he should of died by all accounts .. but lived to tell the tale
..Just

Just read the Darwin awards. The one about the guys with the air hose brought back a memory from 40 years ago. The same thing happened to a young guy at work, 16 year olds skylarking. He survived, but spent 6 months in hospital having his internal plumbing sorted out, and lost his job for misconduct.
