Managed to get some better seeing for these shots. First shot is too red, but GRS is visible, something to do with the settings. Next shot has good colour but has some artifacts on it that I cannot account for. Must have a good look at my star diagonal and then barlow. Anyway comments welcome.
Well done Paul, you got to be happy with those mate, top stuff . I know when i was using the lpi barlowed i just couldnt get the same detail out even though on screen progress looked promising .
Yeah it takes some doing, have started to get a notion of what good seeing is all about. That night it was exceptional and I probably needed to take more shots. Next time I will look at lowering the quality setting and taking more shots in the hope that I will get more shots.
Anyway thanks for the response. You should try to using the barlow.
This shot is the same series of shots taken on the above night, but it is processed and stacked by Gary Beal and his genius son. Many thanks fellas for you good work. Much more detail can be seen from this shot than the previous versions.
Were you using the LPI or the DSI (don't you just love acronyms )
If you were using the LPI did you happen to take note of the settings you were using. Just out of interest if you know what I mean. Hint: I would love to know what they were so I don't have to try them all
BTW Gary would you mind sending your son over to Aus for a holiday. I think there are a few people here that want to use oops I mean meet him.
Paul I had the LPi set on gain of 39, exposure was .177 of a second and quality of 60%. I took 84 images I think, but would need to take a lot more for better definition. Say around 300, so it would be worth trying to reduce the quality down to say 30% and getting more images per second. Don't shot over 120 seconds and save every image.
Saturn will probably need exposure to be a little longer, as it is a bit dimmer in a barlowed image. No problem for the help. Let me know how you go with it.
Viewed Jupiter for the first time through my Dob a couple of weeks back and it gave me that sort of warm fuzzy feeling as to this is what it is all about.
Must be even more rewarding being able to catch that special moment.

Excellent work on the jupiters Paul, and the reprocessed one is great too.
I think you'll find though that the "artifact" in the 2nd image isn't actually a processing artifact, it's a capture artifact - a "dust donut" as some people call it. I had them on my ToUcam CCD chip and got rid of them by using some "can 'o compressed air" and blowing it on the chip. Maybe you need to do it with the LPI.
If you don't want to go to the trouble of cleaning, you just need to make sure the planet isn't in that part of the FOV next time you capture. You can usually see the donuts clear enough in the preview screen if you have the gain high enough.
