Mars, this morning 23rd Sep

I'm a sucker for punishment.. Abbey kept me awake the first half of the night but I still got up at 3am to do some imaging of Mars and the moon.

Unfortunately the seeing was quite ordinary, about 3-4/10 and thus the image isn't as good as I'd hoped.

I had to process it fairly hard to bring out the detail because of the bad seeing, hence the bright limb edge has re-appeared

Anyway here it is, there are volcanoes on this image again - I think Olympus Mons is the dark spot in the lower right corner of the planet. It mostly matches up with the simulation.

Oh and I'm experimenting with presentation style, as you can see.

Comments welcome.

Hi Mike,

This is also a good image.

Judging from your image, I think your 10" scope should be of very good optics. How about changing to use an equatorial mount?

Hi William.

Thanks for your comments. My scope seems to perform quite well for a mass-produced optics from GSO. I am very happy with the views through it, when compared with a $5k SCT.

I've considered an equatorial mount before, but for reasons of cost, portability and convenience, I chose the EQ platform.

Like you, I suffer from small image scale since my scope is f/5 @ 1250mm FL, and I only have a 3x barlow at this stage. I'm planning on getting a 5x powermate in the near future.
