Yet more Red Things from Today

Guess what - another mars image!

This one was taken this morning at 3:17am local time. Seeing conditions were pretty good, considering mars was at an altitude of about 45 degrees.

Equipment:

10" f/6 newtonian
5x powermate + TruTek filter wheel
Astronomik RGB filters
PGR Dragonfly Express camera
Captured using Coriander for Linux
Processed under Windows with Registax, Neat Image,
Astra Image and the GIMP.

Stacked best 1000 frames out of 3000 in each colour

regards, Anthony

It's taken all day to process these three sets of images, and after staying up all night to image last night I think I'm about done for.

Here's the last of the high quality images. I have more data to process but I doubt that it will be any better than this one.

Outstanding images as always Anthony.

What sort of resolution in arc seconds or fractions thereof do you think your getting there?

Nice one again Anthony, I like the 2nd one (in the first post) the best..

Funny though, even though you say the seeing was better for this grab, I preferred the image from the other night with the etchings on it!

Well done again!

Mike, I like the one from the other night too - but I think these images may be more realistic. The other one had selectively highlighted a few features, and probably a few artifacts showed through as well where as this image is "all mars" as far as I can tell.

I'm still on the learning curve, so I'm trying lots of different things when I capture and process. The result? All of these images will turn out a bit different to each other, and I can judge which things worked and which didn't.

Yes, there is - didn't you know Mars has a Ring system? lol

I'm still trying to find the best way to process these images - the raw frames are 16 bit monochrome, not something I've had to deal with before. I'm still experimenting with different things.
