Binoviewer & Dob

Hi All,

Ever since looking through Geoffs (i think it was him) Binoviewers at the feburary PC gathering, I have become more and more interested in this particular item.

From most of my brief research into the item, it seems that they are more suited for Refractors rather than Newts/dob

Any advise if I wanted to pursue purchasing binoviewers for a dob?

A good binoviewer will work fine in a Dobsonian mounted reflector. I use my Denk "big easy" regularly and enjoy it.

You've got to recognize the potential "balance" issue on a dob but they will work and do work well (in my opinon)...but like all optical things, you get what you pay for.

I use BVs in my dob, and also find they work well. Yes they are probably more suited to refractors and SCTs in a way because of the viewing position and balance concerns, but you really want decent (8" or more) aperture for them to work their best on DSOs. So yes, I would recommend them for use in a dob. Your 10" will be a good match!

They are superb on planets and moon.
