Leo Triplet

Here's a quickie from Sunday night. This contains the longest subs I've tried so far - 20x4mins using the DSI II pro and ED80.

What is more interesting is I picked up an Asteroid near the top left - 131 Vala.

Nice one Pete and how lucky was that to capture the asteroid in amongst the triplet.

Thanks Dan. I had some help (thanks Jonathan) finding out what it was and was surprised at how many Asteroids were in this field.

Good one Peter it's always fun to pick up a asteroid, next is to try and do it on purpose, or a say faint comet.

Excellent image Peter, there is a lot of detail in the galaxies.

It looks like the DSI II just managed to fit them onto its chip.

How big would the scope need to be to see that at the eyepiece? 20 inch?

Thanks everyone - the trio just fits in the field with the ED80/DSI II combination and with a bit of tweaking of the camera angle.

Steve - I really liked your colour image and will have to give tri-colour a go if the clouds ever pass.

The trio are mag 9 to 9.5 so should be visible in a modest aperature scope at a dark site.

Very nice peter! Must have been interesting getting it all squeezed into frame.. Its times like that I wish I could afford an instrument rotator

do the camera angle movements from the PC!

I look forward to seeing some colour added.
