Good post...it is one of many stories that need to also be told about the Apollo program.

This sentence really got it for me

In the hours which followed, the crew bravely flew the two craft to a distance of over one hundred miles apart - a daring feat which left McDivitt & Schweickart without a life line should anything go wrong.

Real pioneering stuff there. These types of flights are often overshadowed by the more famous feats like apollo 11, but they are no less important.
