Angry Read your post before posting

I am sick of reading peoples posts that are sometimes incomprehensible, with words missing, and sentences that don't make any sense at all I can understand some spelling mistakes but whole words missing gets up my nose
I wish people would do a simple read before posting. PLEASE
If they read their own posts surely they can see what is wrong, so why don't they go in and fix the offending sentence.

Ron,

People in glass houses......?

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...335#post418335

Seriously, I'm on your side mate!
I think the quality of basic spelling and punctuation on
some internet forums is atrocious.
You would think an astronomy forum would be a few notches
up from the bottom though.

Just pass the posts over Ron.
Texting over the phone has murdered the English language.

Seriously Ron, I strongly suspect many posts on this forum are written when the Boss is not looking . Hey that could be a good poll. How many hours of work time per week do you waste whilst reading and posting on this forum.

But what if Ron has something important to say jjj ?

I dont agree with judgeing others with the old spell checker particularly on message boards
You and I don't know much about the person on the other end .. a limited education , non english speaking background
or how about an intelectual dissability.. none of which should exclude participation .

No probs...I understand what your getting at Ron...can I just say that I do suffer from dyslexia and I make a lot of spelling mistakes. A lot of my problem was made worse by ridicule as I was growing up.

That said...I am getting better, I do beleive that if people take the time to read my posts, they can see that I try. I like to believe my wording is good enough to portray the easy going fella I am.

Hopefully that will make up for my short commings...I do agree though, it does make sense to do your best with a brief review of your post before submitting.

Excuse my mistakes ;P...if you note I do edit a lot......I'll try not to use my iphone...Guilty as charged.

For what I can conceive, most people don't think I have much to say of any importance

Thank you Dave,We all make mistakes and as long as we try to rectify them, that is all that matters.
What I am saying is that people must not even read their posts before posting, or are to lazy to fix even the most glaring errors.
I have not noticed a great deal of problems with your posts

Yes, even the department of education and Universities have identified this:

Ron, I do agree with you and often as I read through threads the teacher in me screams and just wants to attack posts with a big red pen drawing circles around all of the mistakes. I once marked a chemistry essay written entirely in phone text . Took me ages and I was not allowed to award a zero. But one thing I have learnt, as pointed out below, things are not always as they seem. I often look to see how many people read but do not reply to posts. Why is this? Can't they be bothered or are they lacking enough confidence to post? I say post away, mistakes and all as it makes the forum all the better.

Ciao Mark

That is a very valid point Graham!

On a lighter note, I think the longer this thread continues, judging by the
mistakes so far, we are all looking a bunch of hypocrites!

Thanks Ron...I know that a lot of people blame computers for lack of spelling. But I have to say, for me...if I take note of the red line (auto correct) I actaully get better as time goes by. I still make mistakes of course, but do believe for some people who do suffer from bad spelling, that paying atention to the auto correct feature, can really help.

Using Linux or simply installing Mozilla is a great way to assist with your posts with regard to spelling. It gives an auto correct in the post boxes

I know people will scrutinize my posts in the future to find any mistakes, but if that makes me check my posts more thoroughly I will be happy

Some people are not really bothered by slightly incomprehensible sentences or posts but are completely stressed-out when they see a "to" instead of a "too" or a "your" instead of "you're".

Spelling and grammar are just like driving- we all make mistakes...

The worst case is when teachers make spelling mistakes

A 'pole' is what pretty girls dance with, a 'poll' is for voting.
