I'm currently searching around for a guidescope to mount on top of my ED80 (imaging scope). I was hoping to get something like a 80mm f/5 refractor to use, however Bintel and Andrews are out of stock (and there is no date on the next batch of scopes, could be months). So I thought I would ask the community if anyone has somthing like this kicking around that they are not using?
Also, I plan to use a QHY5 as a guide camera. If I was to use a short focal length guidescope (such as a 80x400mm), would I require guide rings, or should I be ok with fixed rings? Due to the 1/2" chip and the short focal length, I believe I shouldnt have much trouble with having a guide star land in the field of view? Thoughts?
Ok, thanks Theo, I'll give them a call on Monday and see if they have some variety of short tube refractor that will suit my needs. I'm hoping that I will not have to buy a second ED80 just to guide through.
Arr, no luck with MyAstroShop either, Steve responded with a 'negative, no stock'. I think what I will do for the time being is pick up a QHY5 and use my ED80 to guide through, and image with the 350D + Canon 70-200 f/2.8. That should keep me busy for a couple of months while waiting for a ST80 to arrive in Aust.
