Hi,

This is a stack of 8 x 10 min lights, 3 darks, and flats and bias frames also. A quick question on the flats. I took 20 this morning just before the sun rose with a white shirt covering and pointing straight up at the sky. I did not touch the focus from the previous night. I took 20 at 1/125 and the histogram was between half way and 2/3 to the right. Is this histogram position OK for flats?

The shots were taken through Williams Optics FLT110 triplet and Canon unmodified 400d at ISO 800. Temp was between 22 ans 23C. Guided with PHD on EQ6Pro. Stacked with Deep Sky Stacker and processed in Photoshop CS3.

Any advice on processing would be valuable. I have had two great sessions with Paul (1Ponders) but any extra advice would be great.

A touch noisy, but still a good effort as there is good detail showing in the arms.

Good image Mark. Lots of detail in the spiral arms but it does seem noisy.

The background needs to be darkened as this accentuates the noise levels. The colour is also off which looks over cooked.

Apart from that it looks very nice.

Not much I could do with the compressed JPEG Mark, but I had a go. Hope you don't mind. Lost some of the detail in the galaxy but ya get that. Bit of haloing around the brighter stars. Come on out one weekend with the original and we'll have a play with it.

Just did a bit of jiggery pokery on your image to lessen the speckles. Hope you don't mind what I've managed (changed the levels, slight change of the curves and despeckle)....maybe looks OK...
